Eleni Papadopoulou’s work is an ongoing exploration of the intersection between fiction and reality, weaving together different mediums to create a dialogue that questions ownership, relationships, and the boundaries between the artist and the audience. Through irony and sarcasm, she blends memory with reality to construct a personal mythology, aiming to foster engagement with others. A central theme in her textile works is alienation—she challenges the viewer to form human connections with the unfamiliar, or the xenos (Gr. alien-like, foreigner), encouraging us to perceive something that doesn’t fit neatly into our coded reality.
Her research delves into the symbols and ideograms of various ancient cultures, examining how their meanings evolve and disappear over time and within visual culture. She is captivated by the way different cultures echo one another in a harmonious, symbiotic relationship, where the alien elements of each culture don’t need to be fully understood—only accepted.

Eleni Papadopoulou is a Greek artist currently living and working between Ghent, Belgium, and Athens, Greece. She graduated with a Master in Fine Arts at Aristotle University in 2016, and earned her MFA from Luca School of Arts in 2019.
