ROUND 3

• Charlotte Gillain – Women in public:  Women in public is a short film that questions ownership of your identity. By means of artificial intelligence, we want to play with doubling, exchanging and mixing people.  You follow four characters in an old Antwerp café. The viewer is immersed in an absurd reality where you can drink coffee with yourself, suddenly see a doppelganger pass in the street or no longer recognize your face as your own.

• 't Werkhuys vzw – Art Club Borgerhout:  Through these trajectories, the Art Club, together with 't Werkhuys and the artists, organizes two exhibitions on visual art in 't Werkhuys. The Art Club Borgerhout is an accessible, empowering and artistic youth organization for visual arts in 't Werkhuys, for young people from the neighborhood between 16 and 26 years. The young people will get to work showing their work to an audience through two exhibitions that open in May and November. With this project we bring more diversity to art and give young people the power to make their voices heard.

• Theater workshop NEST vzw– Bagger:  BAGGER, from Theaterwerkplaats NEST, will be a collective rollercoaster about power and especially power-and-loss, in collaboration with the Antwerp professional branch of the KAK Collectief and Stormkop. Bagger will be a location performance on the lighthouse boat De Westhinder, a performance in which our political system is fearlessly turned inside out.

• Rune Tuerlinckx – MOKITA:  With MOKITA we take matters into our own hands, we create a platform; visibility for our work and with that we reach an audience outside the closed art academy world. We see this step partly as an exercise, but at the same time it is a concrete one in our future field of work. 

• Lina Ejdaa– TANZ IN 44:  TANZ in 44 is an interactive video installation based on the performance Tanzmanschine. The visitor gets the chance to conquer the oppressive world of Tanzmanschine while dancing. Within the setting of an expo, we want to give them the opportunity to experience the playfulness and freedom of a club night. We consider this necessary at a time when our freedom of movement and autonomy are being tested.

• Vzw Bruiswater – Mascot Gallery:  In three parallel courses of three consecutive work sessions, we stimulate the imagination and activate the creativity of groups of participants. In a collective way the participants create 'mascots'; first they make abstract shapes with the 'Idiosyncratic Machine', then they screen print those shapes in 'Form Prints' into compositions on large sheets of paper, then they interpret those screen prints into designs for 'mascots'.

• Roxette Chikua – Paradis:  Thanks to a collaboration with the Mestizo Arts Platform, Roxette Chikua will have the opportunity to present her first solo performance to programmers and interested parties from the arts field. On Saturday 19 June she will show 'Paradis', as a WIPCOOP Session in hetpaleis.  Roxette starts from her own story and takes the viewer along in her identitarian quest on the basis of lyrics, song, dance and fashion. She presents her story in the form of a parody because she believes that difficult topics can be discussed with humor. Together with her, her audience discovers and recognizes the different dimensions of a young woman of color who wants to shape her own life by breaking free from all that society considers 'normal'.  Through her own style, 'baroque afrique', Roxette shows how a historical art style in the hands of a black woman leads to different perspectives. With 'afrofuturism' as inspiration, she searches for her own building blocks and form to tell her story.

• MAISHA vzw – Neighbours:  Neighbors is a story in which we zoom in on the lives of 5 families who, despite their different origins and backgrounds, are Belgians. Buren is a story by young people, and with young people, but for everyone. Problems exist in every society, how can young people and the elderly support each other to find solutions together?

• Ageeba Kromah – SOSO:  SOSO is a gallery that welcomes other artists and creatives. The idea behind the concept is to intertwine different artstyle and give our residents the freedom to express and roam between each style.

• Nitish Kumar Bhardwaj - BEING:  This short film is about a person, who can be identified as anybody, who is trying to find his/her place in a society, in a family, in a working place... No matter what! there will always be conflicts which will affect us in different ways. I am trying to focus on that psychological effect on that person. I call that person, 'Being'. ´Being´ literally means, ´the state of existing.`

• Oyakhilomen Akuete – The essence of life:  “Essence of life” is an artistic investigation into the individual and collective meaning of life. relevant themes such as human interaction, norms and values, forms of communication are discussed here. During this research, many conventional events are questioned in order to accommodate a new answer. A reconstruction of the world where we find ourselves in order to arrive at our meaning of life.

• Graciete Zola – 414 The Jumpstart:  The Jumpstart wants to give our local talents a boost in their journey from amateur artist to a professional artist. This will be done by introducing the artists to the process of recording and ultimately performing their projects. As an artist, in addition to your talent, there is a lot to consider to get your work to the public. These are all things that come with a lot of costs. The jumpstart wants to give the winner a strong start in his/her Career.

• Beau Van Hoydonck – SXA.DYU / virtual screen:  This 4-part workshop offers artists the opportunity to develop their own work within the audiovisual medium under the guidance of various experienced artists. Together we are working towards the Virtual screen presentation on October 1, 2021. The workshop participants will have the opportunity to show their work on a large screen, in symbiosis with the artists and musicians present.

• vzw AMIGO – CODE:  The project is a creative process (5 days) to create a pop-up dance performance "CODE" with a group of diverse young people aged 14-18. The lyrics of the music are written by the young people themselves, who slam, sing and rap to instrumental beats.  After a year of living with the corona situation and mouth caps, a body language has emerged among the young people that communicates with signals. Also in theatre, Hip Hop and Capoeira, sign language,.. we learn there are specific "codes. This inspires the choreography to bring different cultures together with different movement styles (contemporary, urban and afro dance styles) and music and to mix them into one. a pop-up dance performance that can be performed at a wide variety of locations in all districts of Antwerp.

• Dilbi vzw – Ala moj el bar:  The project is a purposeful comedy theater piece that focuses on the problems that young people experience at a certain age and in certain circumstances. Based on the comedy of difference in the internal minds of young people and the way they look at each issue. The project explains the conflict going on in the young man's mind in all his directions, the contradictions he goes through and the constant battle between his mind, emotion, enthusiasm, laziness and dreams. All situations are discussed comically (black comedy) to focus on what the young person is going through in general.

ROUND 2

• Behuman – Locked Inside : WHAT CONNECTS young people in this corona period? What do they need to stay in their power? By entering into a dialogue with them, we try to find a positive word/feeling together. With this word/feeling they get to work and try to convert their POWER word into their POWER image. The results of the project will be disseminated by Agrafa Affichage. There will be 500 x A1 posters on the streets.  The results will also be distributed via a platform on Instagram LOCKED INSIGHT that already exists.  500 instant photos will also be distributed in De Studio, on the entire ground floor.  And there is a track to organize an exhibition in the FOMU. This would probably take place at the end of September/beginning of October.

• Miranda Vermeiren – Broken Beauty : Broken Beauty is a photo project to accept a body altered by breast cancer. The search for beauty and acceptance of the body are central.  The project mixes different art disciplines. In addition to photography, texts, paintings, charcoal drawings and plaster prints are also discussed. Avdia Avrumutoae enriches the photo exhibition with the painting of 2 plaster busts.

• Yuri Hostie  – Captain Dog Heart and Me : Captain Dog Heart and Me will be a short film based on Yoeri's short story of the same name. The short film is about two men who work in a call center and systematically bully all the callers from the insurance office. Captain Dog Heart and Lieutenant Nirvana are two lived-in nihilists who constantly turn reality upside down. It is a socially critical, black comedy that focuses on a mixed cast and crew of up-and-coming talent.

• Muhanad Mukhtar – Sinbad : Sinbad is a refugee from Baghdad. He was born in the war and was never able to celebrate his birthday. He has no friends and is very lonely. Sinbad is now eager to celebrate his birthday for the first time. In this way he hopes to get to know people and to feel at home in his new country. The performance is aimed at children (+7) and their families. It is twofold - a multidisciplinary performance (35 minutes) + a participatory part (60 minutes) led by Mohanad Mukhtar.

• Sing Sing Sang –  SUMMER SINGING SONG : Summer holidays are long for some children. In addition to our permanent activities during the school year, we offer a playful but instructive curriculum to enrich the summer holiday musically. We address all our students with special attention to the more vulnerable. New children are also welcome, this way we get to know each other and the step towards our permanent operation becomes smaller.

• Mike De Ridder – own legend : THE OWN LEGEND is an autobiographical story about the search for God, devotion and spirituality. A multidisciplinary theater performance in which YouTube and the best-known social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, as well as Wikipedia and Google, are simulated on stage and supported by music, soundscapes and video projections.

• Emmanuel Boakye  – The five stages of grief: The five stages of grief is a shortfilm about Caleb Griffin, a person that never deals or takes his feelings seriously until he loses his grandmother who is the only link he has to his biological family. One of his adopted family, who is his uncle, forces him to go to therapy and face his emotions head on which takes him on a very emotional journey or stages of grief throughout his life.

• SIDEWARDS – All you need : Together with 4 dancers, a dramaturg and 3 musicians we will create a dance performance about beauty using live music. The dancers will sing, and musicians will dance, we work with text and with the language of the body. Under the umbrella term beauty, both spontaneity and authenticity are discussed, just like ugliness and insincerity as a counterweight, humor is not excluded and the musicians and dancers become one on stage.

• Linne Dierckx – toontje lager : Toontje lager is a musical project in which we collaborate with young, diverse and emerging artists including myself and Thierry Ekangamene to create a web series around music.  The intention is to record a live music quiz consisting of four episodes via a live band consisting of 5 people, namely Julie Daems, Isy Baeyens, Andy Kisema, Linimas Mbadu, Moïse mukendi.  The live band will accompany and support the entire series, Thierry and I will discuss the entire program together with the participants (16 participants).

• Youth Zone – Music Festival RYS : RYS is a supralocal collective of three associations that are engaged in music, art education and storytelling. As a final result, we wish to organize a first edition of a music festival. A music festival with Flemish emerging and experienced artists. The project aims to help emerging artists develop and exhibit their music on stage. We do this with a pre- and post-process and the whole (including show moment) is cast in an after movie.
