Joia van de Ven

Joia is a Dutch artist from Eindhoven, currently in the In Situ Master’s program at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. She sees art as a way to create connections, investigate curiosity, and discover deeper layers within everyday experiences. Her work explores the interaction between humans and their environment, with a focus on our relationship with nature. Through photography, installations, and other media, Joia seeks to visualize and communicate this in accessible ways, translating abstract themes into tangible, experiential forms.

Meeting Grounds

Living in a city, it’s easy to forget the massive structures built to shape our lives. We get used to the comfort of being able to drive, bike and walk anywhere. But even in these travels, we can always be reminded that even though we tailored these grounds to our needs, we share it still. Every space left by us is being claimed by weeds that seem to challenge our control, creating unexpected meeting grounds between nature and the city.
