Roman Sedov

Roman Sedov (born in Belarus) is a self-taught, multilingual artist who lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. Sedov makes his own paint using only ash as pigment.

Sedov gradually began painting with ashes to strengthen the physical connection between the artist and the viewer. Inspired by both the invisible world of microbiology and ancient stories of life, resurrection, and the phoenix, he captures the cycle of decay and flourishing.

Life 12

Painting: (H x B) 40 x 60 cm, ashtray: Diameter: 9 cm, height: 8 cm.

Painting: ashes and acrylic on wood, ashtray: aluminum, plastic and acrylic.

In 'Life 12', Roman Sedov explores life. The various dots are all unique. Together, they form larger organisms. The absence of a frame allows one to feel connected to this work. Just like the various individuals from the communities that enrich the city and who, thanks to our interconnectedness, can reach an infinite number of people, even from outside the city.

In a time of rapid change, this work reminds us of the beauty of the human and the organic that will always find its way back to the surface.
